Update to our email of August 3, 2003

to the Mayan Palace

The next Monday, August 4, the person in charge of the Customer Service Department called us. She told us that there was no copy of a waiver in our file but that she would look into the matter further and come back to us as soon as possible. She had to check with the Sales Department and the Principals of the company.

We did not expect an answer this soon and the Mayan Palace did not take long to rescind our contract and restore us to the way we were when we walked into the Sales Office on January 19, 2003. We got our money back on August 25!

Needless to say, we had quite a few anxious and worrisome months!

Since we had not yet transferred the final papers of the Grand Velas timeshare week to Holiday Equity, who was handling the exchange transaction for the Mayan Palace, it did not take long to get our floating timeshare week back at this beautiful resort.

We also got our non-floating ocean front unit back since no timeshares had been sold at the Sheraton Buganvilias since the hurricane damage. This timeshare resort will be open late October when they start selling again. We were guaranteed ownership of our timeshare week, in writing, on September 29, 2003. We were very happy about that as that was a big concern to us.

We are pleased the way this rescission of contract was handled by the Mayan Palace but it is a complete different story with the Global Resort Services. They have told us on the phone that they will not rescind the contract since we had 21 days to do this in earlier. We never expected the units to be rented immediately for a date so far out so that's why we did not rescind the contract especially since Laurie Stevens told us it would rent. We had no doubt about it until several months had passed and no weeks had been rented yet. Read our bad experience here with this company.

It is our intention to report this company to the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Florida to find out what can be done for us. However, we found out recently on the TUG Bulletin Board and in one of The Timeshare Beat Alerts that they have other complaints too against Vacation Network Advertising Corporation, aka: Global Resort Services. You can read the comments here so let this be a warning to you!
